Littleton, CO. (October 20th, 2017 – This Christmas, treat yourself to a magical evening with Clara and the Nutcracker as Littleton Youth Ballet and Littleton Ballet Academy cast a spell over you and your entire family with its captivating production of The Nutcracker. Featuring two casts of over 170 children, pre-professional dancers, and guest artists, this delightful ballet will transport you to a simpler time and an enchanting place, where snowflakes dance, nutcrackers turn into princes, and wishes really do come true!
Littleton Youth Ballet’s production is a fully professional production with gorgeous sets and backdrops, beautiful costumes, and will captivate the hearts of all ages as they travel with young Clara in her fanciful dream to the Land of Sweets. The production is set in Littleton in the early 1900’s and includes subtle changes every year in choreography, set design, and costuming.
Students train year-round at Littleton Ballet Academy in order to participate in the following year’s production of The Nutcracker. There is a progression in parts each year as the youngest dancers advance from wee mice and little angels, to candy canes and clowns, to snowflakes and flowers, and finally to leading roles such as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Snow Queen, and the Dew Drop Fairy. Some of the dancers in the production have performed in every Nutcracker performance Littleton Youth Ballet has presented.
Last January, Littleton Youth Ballet received the official word that Colorado Heights University was closing and would need to find a new theatre. This turned out to be a very difficult task as some theatres are booked three years in advance. Littleton Youth Ballet uses backdrops, portals, and snow to enhance the production and it was difficult to find a theatre with fly space. A friend suggested the theatre at Westminster High School which had recently been rebuilt and dedicated to longtime theatre teacher Joanna Ramsey. Co-directors Bobbie and Alison Jaramillo checked out the theatre and fell in love with the gorgeous new state of the art theatre. And as it turns out Joanna Ramsey was Alison’s high school drama teacher. “It was perfect, although it is farther north. But we are hoping the audience will fall in love with the theatre’s comfortable seats and fantastic sound.” states Alison Jaramillo.
