Northglenn’s unofficial kick-off to summer returns with Derby Day. Youth ages 2 to 14 are welcome to compete in the fishing derby and ride in the bike derby. In celebration of the city’s 50th Anniversary, participants will receive a commemorative bike bell.
For the fishing derby, check-in starts at 8 a.m. Fishing in Webster Lake follows from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Awards will be presented in six age categories, along with the longest fish overall. Just as a reminder, participants MUST bring their own fishing pole, tackle and bait.
Nearby on the basketball court, the bike derby will have a learn-to-ride practice area and bike safety skills program. Bicycles and helmets will be provided. Plus, the city’s Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Committee will give away refurbished bikes to kids who need one.
Also, the city has invited healthy eating and/or active living vendors and groups to attend. Plus – you can take a photo and get a hug from Buddy Bison – mascot for the national Kids to Parks Day!
Cost is free for both derbies. However, fishing derby participants MUST pre-register at www.northglenn.org/derbyday.The first 300 registered will receive a hat and snacks.
