CWE’s season finale is Stars and Sea, featuring evocative music inspired by natural elements, the serenity of stars and the movement of the sea. The concert takes place Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 7:30pm at the King Center Concert Hall, 855 Lawrence Way, Denver 80204. John Mackey’s Wine-Dark Sea follows a journey of interactions with the sea in Homer’s epic Odyssey. Steve Danyew’s Magnolia Star is actually inspired by a train and sounds borrowed from the blues and Dave Brubeck’s “Blue Rondo a la Turk.” Ralph Vaughan Williams provides the classic work on the program – Sea Songs, based on traditional sea shanties.
