Early Literacy Program. Volunteers are needed for the Book Start
Early Literacy Program, an intergenerational project that brings
literature to children in childcare centers throughout Douglas
County. No experience is needed. The commitment is two hours per
week for a minimum of three months. Volunteers go through a
two-hour training session, offered the third Wednesday of the month
at the Philip S. Miller Library, 100 S. Wilcox St., Castle Rock.
The next sessions are from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 18, and Dec. 16.

Handbell Choir. The Castle Rock Community Ringers Handbell Choir
will present a holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20 at New Hope
Presbyterian Church. Joining the handbell choir will be the Rocky
Mountain Flute Choir and Paul Wren on the harp. Tickets are $10 for

County School District to provide space for free H1N1 vaccinations.
Vaccinations will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 7 at
ThunderRidge High School; 4-8 p.m. Nov. 9 at Legend High School;
4-8 p.m. Nov. 10 at Mountain Ridge Middle School; and 9 a.m. to 1
p.m. Nov. 21 at Castle View High School. Tri-County Health does not
guarantee that everyone who attends one of the clinic locations

Nov. 7

Pancake Breakfast. The Douglas County Young Marines are hosting
a free Veteran’s Pancake Breakfast from 7-11 a.m. Nov. 7 at
Community Baptist Church, 5451 E. Highway 86 in Franktown. The
Young Marines participate in Veterans Appreciation Week every year
to honor our veterans and this year they are hosting the breakfast
to say, “Thank you for your service to our country”. Private Taryn
Nell of the Douglas County Young Marines is organizing and
fundraising for the event as his Eagle Scout project. Family
members escorting veterans to the breakfast will not be charged;
however, the unit will be accepting donations, if desired, that
will be given to The Greatest Generation Foundation, an
organization whose primary mission is to fund trips for veterans to
return to their former battlefield. In addition to the breakfast,
the unit will have Veterans History Project interview stations
available for any veterans interested in telling “their story” to
be preserved for all time in the Library of Congress. Any veterans
who are interested in being interviewed are encouraged to bring
photos, letters, documents, and commendations that they would like
to donate to the Library of Congress with their veteran’s packet.

Teen Driver Safety program taught by law enforcement officers
being offered after school, from 3;30-6 p.m. three days a week,

Holiday Craft Fair. The Legend High School Band Boosters will
host “A Crafter’s Holiday Fair” Nov. 7 at Legend High School, 22219
Hilltop Road in Parker. Admission is free to the public. More than
45 booths from many talented crafters along with a used book sale,
drawings throughout the day, and a bake sale. Breakfast and lunch
